Dramatic Drone Footage Shows Magnitude of La Palma Eruption in Spain

A drone reconnaissance flight captured spectacular up-close images of the erupting Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma on Saturday, September 25.

The flight was carried out by the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME) and the Canary Islands Government Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), the IGME said.

It took place following a round of powerful eruptions that took place on September 23 that emitted dark, towering clouds of smoke.
