Lava Spews From Second Vent on La Palma as Eruptions Near New Record

New vents opened on the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma, Spain, on November 29 as experts predicted the continued activity could make for the longest eruption on the island in five centuries.

This footage, shared by IGN-CNIG on Monday, shows a new vent spewing lava. According to Involcan, the lava from the new vents could reach previously unaffected parts of the island.

Francisco Prieto, a representative of the Canary Islands Volcanic Emergency Plan, told local press the volcano was on course to break a previous record, dating back to 1585, of 84 consecutive days of activity. Credit: IGN-CNIG via Storyful
