Louisiana Family Tries to Get Traffic-Blocking Gator off Highway

An animal-loving Louisiana resident captured video on July 28 of her family and other Good Samaritans trying to coax an alligator that was lying across a lane of Interstate 49 off the road.

Amanda Carter, who works with an animal rescue, was on her way back to Livingston Parish from Texas after a visit to Six Flags with her family when they saw the 12-foot reptile on the highway and nearly hit it, according to local reports.

Carter, her husband, and a few strangers stopped their cars to try to get the gator safely off the road. The footage shows a paint-roller extension pole the Carters thought might be used to prod the alligator into moving, according to WBRZ.

The alligator was later removed by professionals after the group spent about two hours on the side of the road, according to reports. Credit: Amanda Carter via Storyful
