Russian Police Carry Out Mass Raids on Offices of Kremlin Critic Navalny

Dozens of offices of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FKB) and other organisations associated with the Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny were raided on September 12, according to Navalny and his supporters.

Navalny said that more than 200 searches were carried out by police, on homes and offices in around 40 towns and cities.

The raids came after Navalny led a Smart Voting campaign aimed at denting the power of the ruling United Russia party in September 8 local elections. United Russia ended up losing around a third of its seats in Moscow’s city council.

Russian authorities in August opened a money laundering investigation against Navalny. The assets of some of his associates were frozen and the FBK’s Moscow office was raided as part of the investigation, the Moscow Times reported. Credit: Alexey Navalny via Storyful
