Strawberry Fire Torches Over 40 Acres of Forest in Kane County

Firefighters in southwestern Utah battled a lightning-induced forest fire affecting Dixie National Forest on Monday afternoon, July 20.

Fire officials said the fire was caused by lightning and that by Tuesday morning, it had spread an estimated 43 acres and was zero percent contained, according to reports.

As of Tuesday morning, no structures were threatened and no evacuation orders had been issued for the area, although some camp trailers were reportedly in danger, local media said.

The blaze, officially known as the Strawberry Fire, was first reported around 2 pm on July 20 in an area northeast of Duck Creek Village.

Crews from Cedar Mountain Fire Protection District, the Bureau of Land Management, and Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands were working together to battle the blaze with helicopters, air tankers, hand crews, fire engines, and other vehicles.
