Vimeo CEO Says Could Hit 200M Viewers a Month by Summer

Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor says the online video platform’s latest partnership with Indiegogo is all about connecting the ‘links in the chain’ of getting a film from creation to distribution. Trainor said the reason for the partnership is that crowdfunding has become increasingly important in the developing online video ecosystem. But, Vimeo does not only want to be a platform where creators upload content, it also wants to be a player in helping completed films get distributed. Trainor said his company is actively looking to buy films at Sundance. Trainor said one key area where there is still opportunity, beyond making and distributing films is finding ways to use social media to create buzz around a film so viewers will go to platforms, like Vimeo, to watch new content. Right now, Vimeo reaches about 170 million viewers around the world every month and Trainor says he expects that to reach 200 million by this summer. TheStreet’s Ruben Ramirez reports from Park City, Utah.
