Best linen shirts for men in summer 2022

Now we’re in the height of summer, it’s time to swap your trusty cotton Oxford for a lightweight linen shirt.

Linen is a magical fabric. With a low thread count and the ability to wick away excess sweat, it’s perfect for those who are prone to under-arm patches in the heat, and its antibacterial qualities means it won’t cause odour either. It should be a staple in every man’s summer wardrobe, living alongside your white T-shirt, your sunglasses, and your trainers.

There’s one catch - it creases at the blink of an eye. We’d recommend embracing the slightly crumpled fabric to add to the relaxed look. Give your shirt an iron or steam but don’t worry about the odd crinkle here and there because within an hour of wearing it, they’ll be back and you won’t be able to keep it looking immaculate all day long.

When it comes to styling, you’ve got a few options. You could size up and pair with little shorts for a louche summer look à la Jude Law in The Talented Mr. Ripley, and don’t be afraid to undo a few extra buttons pool-side. Or perhaps you’d prefer to channel Sean Connery’s James Bond in Thunderball, and go all-out-Italian-Riviera by wearing a short sleeved style with a pair of lightly coloured trousers and sandals.

There are a great deal out there to choose from. For the ultra-relaxed aesthetic, look for 100 per cent linen, or if you’re in the market for a breathable shirt to wear with tailoring, opt for a linen cotton blend which will help prevent those pesky creases for a sleeker, smarter choice. Our favorite is a camp or cuban collar style for a vintage feel.

Whatever your preferred design, we’ve rounded up the best in the business to let you soak up the summer sun in style.

Bode Mosaic-embroidered linen-blend shirt

Every piece designed by Emily Adams Bode Aujla, founder of Bode, tells a unique story through a study of the past, and the linen shirt is no exception. Inspired by an Eastern-European tablecloth originating from the mid-1900s, Bode’s shirt will give you that ‘I’ve-just-picked-this-up-at-a-flea-market’ aesthetic. Pair with their beaded trousers to up the eclectic ante.
