Wiregrass native is still the richest man in Alabama

ABBEVILLE, Ala (WDHN) — Wiregrass entrepreneur Jimmy Rane has held the title “Alabama’s Richest Man” for another year, according to Forbes Magazine.

The independent financial magazine reports Rane has a current net worth of $1.5 billion.

Rane, also known as “Yella Fella,” is the founder and CEO of Great Southern Wood Preserving in Abbeville.

He earned the nickname “Yella Fella” after debuting his popular ad campaign of the same name. From 2004 to 2012, he starred as a crime-fighting cowboy in short Western films and marketed his Yellawood brand.

An Abbeville native, Rane has spoken at length about his love for his hometown and the Wiregrass.

Rane established “YellaWood University,” a retreat for young employees in Abbeville, and in 2000, he started the Jimmy Rane Foundation, which awards partial college scholarships.
